As you did when completing the assignment for chapter 4 of Breakthrough Principals, this assignment asks you to imagine that you are taking on your first principal position at a new school.
As you know, Breakthrough Principals is an invaluable resource for new principals, as it essentially provides a recipe for creating a strong and effective school.
The Principals Toolkit found at the back of the book addresses a range of topics, including leadership. The tools are organized to correspond to chapters in the book with similar content. (Note: Reading those chapters is important! The tools will not make sense in isolation.)
Your assignment:
Read chapter 7, Personal Leadership, of Breakthrough Principals (pages 227-253).
Review the tools in The Principals Toolkit at the back of the book (pages 306 -315). All of the tools focus on one’s personal leadership beliefs, abilities, and predispositions.
Pick and complete one tool from Chapter 7, Personal Leadership (pp.306-315), that you think you would use as you begin your first principalship.
For tools 7.4 and 7.6, make a photocopy, fill out the form, and scan it to have an electronic copy you can submit.
For all other tools, just retype the questions and then answer them. Be sure your paper indicates the tool used.
Once you have completed the tool, write a reflective narrative (one to two pages double spaced) about what these results mean to you, as a leader, and how they might impact your practice moving forward. Do not repeat the results in the narrative; rather, discuss what the results mean!
