PSYCHOSOCIAL DEVELOPMENT EARLY CHILDHOOD
PARENTING INTERVIEW

Interview a parent from a different cultural worldview of birth and parenting that exists in the US majority culture. This can be a father, mother, partner, adoptive parent, or any parent raising the child.  The person needs to have been present during the pregnancy, during the actual labor process, and during the first year of infancy.  They need to have been personally present during all three phases.  ***Write a 2-3 page summary of his or her response.  Be sure to include information about the pregnancy, childbirth, and first year of infancy as well as any information related specifically to issues of human diversity, issues of culture, class, and religion will be especially relevant here. Diversity issues must be explored to receive full credit.
1. Introduction: Who are you interviewing? Why did you choose this person? What were the time, date, and location of the interview?  Any other relevant and/or interesting background you wish to add.
2. You should use the Q&A format, which requires you to write questions and answers out verbatim.
3. Conclusion/summary: You should reflect on the interview process.  How did you feel about what you were told?  Did any of what you learned surprise you?  Do you have a different perspective than when you began the interview?  What did the subject say that was the same as in the textbook?  What did he or she say that was different or unexpected?  What did you learn about traditions and rituals related to childbirth in a different culture? NOTE: You must include facts from the interview in this section and relate those facts to what you learned from the text and other relevant course materials.  Without an accurate tie-in to the text, the assignment will be incomplete.
