As you consider both sides, you will want to consider Ho Chi Minhs argument for Vietnamese independence in 1945 as well as US policy (containment) as a means of defeating communism. Please draw, also, on the vast amount of information presented in the Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam documentary. Begin by arguing in support of US action–support of France and, eventually, war–in Vietnam after 1945. Then present Ho Chi Minhs side of the argument in pushing for independence and resisting US action in Vietnam. History is 20/20, so conclude by supporting one side or the other and defend your position.
