What is less well-known is that the U.S. has had one of the highest growth rates in per capita healthcare spending since 1980, among higher income countries. Healthcare spending around the world, generally, is rising faster than overall economic growth. Almost all countries have seen healthcare spending increase as a percentage of their gross domestic product (GDP) over time.
