World civilization essayThe second module of the World Civilizations II course has been focused on the 18th and 19th centuries, up to World War I. It is a period when European culture came to dominate Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Select three societies in Asia, Africa, Latin America or Middle East and give specific examples of how each reacted to ideas spread by the Enlightenment and subsequent revolution, the technology spread by industrialization and the influences of global empire building. Discuss especially the conflict between ideas about individual freedom and how those conflict with industrialization, the growth of state (including imperial) power.
