Work Importance Locator Paper

Step One: Complete the Work Importance Locator yourself and with a colleague or a student. There are three different sites that host a good profiler The assessment can be found

1. Texas – https://www.texascaresonline.com/wil/wilmenu.asp (Links to an external site.)

2. New Mexico – https://www.dws.state.nm.us/careersolutions/CSS-workimport.html (Links to an external site.)

3. California – https://www.cacareerzone.org/ (Links to an external site.)

If you prefer the paper and pencil version you can do it here – https://www.onetcenter.org/WIL.html (Links to an external site.) You will need the Instrument, Cards, Sorting Sheet, Score Report, and User’s Guide. If you want to read the Score Report and the User’s Guide on the computer rather than printing them, that would be fine. Don’t get discouraged by the number of pages in the supporting materials. Be sure that you study the Score Report and User’s Guide before you interpret the instrument so that you are prepared to use the results to help your colleague/student better understand their career values. The assessment itself is quite simple to use so be patient.

Step Two: After completing the first step, write a one-page paper (single-spaced) describing the process, the results, and your impression of the instrument. Be sure to include a few comments describing how it was to administer the instrument to someone else. Is it useful? What do you think about the card sort approach to assessment?
