Article analysis
(no references required).
Length: Approx. 500 words (give or take: it is possible to do this very succinctly).
INSTRUCTIONS:
Your task in this assignment is to analyse the set readings.
Summarise the article by identifying WHAT/WHY/HOW.
1. WHAT is the article is about? What is its main argument? What is it that the authors are trying to convince readers of?. Are they challenging existing knowledge in some way?
2. WHY do the authors think this is important? Is there a ?bigger question? or body of knowledge in Women?s Studies to which their piece contributes? What difference would it make if their argument is right?
3. HOW is the argument made? Outline the sequence of ideas, or steps in the argument presented. How do the authors make their case? What knowledge, background, or evidence do they bring to their argument? On what do they rely for evidence?
In answering these questions, you should produce a short, accurate summary of the set reading. Remember, it is not necessary to understand the reading in its entirety to do well in this task: you are identifying main themes, not details. Write the summary IN YOUR OWN WORDS ? that is, avoid direct quotation.
