Tracing the evolution of management theory in quest of understanding the historical foundations leads us to today’s theories. Trying to understand effective management is one of the world’s oldest pre-occupations.
1. Are great managers made or born? What do managers leaders look like, short tall, white, black, male, or female (trait theory) and how would you spot one?
2. How do they get people to follow them (motivation, charisma, control, influence, rewards (behavior theories)?
Interestingly enough, these are also some of the same fundamental questions that underpin efforts to understand the dynamics that define leadership.
