Hi Everyone!

Is there more to HR than its predecessor, PA? Discuss the arguments for and against this notion.

Yes I believe that there is more to HR than PA or personnel administration (2014). It is impossible to think that PA wouldn’t evolve such as companies, technology, practices has changed. According to Youssef, before the 1900 most of the job opportunities were with small companies and at that time they didn’t have to deal with the stress of an employee getting hurt and seeking unemployment or disability didn’t exist (2014). If I read right it seemed that PA was a little more hands on then HR has ended up to be now.

Based on what you have learned so far, how can HR act as a strategic business partner in general? How can HR act as a strategic partner in your organization?

From what I read in the article “Why We Hate HR”, it seems that HR may not have a huge voice in an organization. This is my first time in a corporate setting where HR has a setting and presence within the organization. In general and in my organization it would be nice to see them get more involved instead of acting as a secret society that dose the hiring and firing for the company. Honestly the only time that we even hear of or see any member of the HR department is when something is wrong. And to make it worse my organization has alienated them even more by moving them out of our building and into a whole different building. The thick line of separation makes them seem like a completely separation division of the company. When in actuality they should try and make us closer and united.

After reading Hammond’s article, do you think your employer should increase, decrease or outsource HR roles and functions and why?

After reading Hammond’s article I don’t believe anyone should outsource HR roles because this takes away what the department is good and knows how to do or “the administrivia”, and leaves them with functions that they are not particularly great at doing (2005). I don’t think that the organization that I belong to should neither decrease nor increase their current functions. However I do believe it would be nice if they weren’t such a secret. They are kind of looked at as the bringer of bad news. It’s a joke that goes around in some parts of the office. Before someone says a joke they will say “ Let me make sure HR isn’t around” and the person will jokingly look around the room to check before they tell the joke.
