Assessment tasks

Chapter 14 of your textbook provides an overview of water accounting in Australia. Unfortunately the textbook is a little out of date and much has happened in water accounting since it was published.

Your task is to research the current state of water accounting in Australia. At a minimum you should be able to report on:

• Who currently has oversight responsibility and authority to direct water accounting in Australia?
• To what extent is water accounting a voluntary disclosure, and to what extent is it mandatory? If it is mandatory, are there water accounting standards, and whom do they apply to?
• What is the objective of water accounting in Australia?

There is a lot of information available on the internet about water accounting in Australia. You will have to undertake independent research in order to respond to this assessment task.

You must submit a single report, fully referenced using the Harvard method. The report body should not exceed 2,000 words.

The assessment criteria will be as follows:

1. The depth and breadth of coverage displayed in your response to inform the reader of the current state of water accounting in Australia (20 marks).
2. Presentation of the report (5 marks).
3. Readability: style, grammar, spelling and punctuation (5 marks).

No marks will be available for referencing as it is expected that you will provide full references in Harvard format. However, up to 5 marks can be deducted for poor referencing. You are expected to fully research your answers and reference your report accordingly.

The marks you receive from this assessment will replace the marks received from your prior attempt to determine your final grade. Please be aware that regardless of how well you perform in this assessment, you cannot achieve a higher grade than “Pass” for this course.

This is an individual assignment only. No groupwork is allowed.
