Language and Literacy for Medicine 2016 Assessments1. Book Report One: The Condition and the Book 6 marks
The first book report is a composition that reports on the medical condition or field of medicine (epidemiology, oncology) that is highlighted in the assigned text. The report should consider the condition/ field of study presented in the text. Students must choose two specific medical or scientific issues that are presented in the book, and discuss these issues with reference to additional sources. No quotations are allowed for this report. This book report should be a minimum of 750 words and have a minimum of two sources that have been internally cited. The due date for this assignment is listed on the course main page.
The report should include the following:
1. Introduction:
a. You need to include bibliographic details of the book (title, author, etc.).
b. You need a brief summary of what the book is about (if the book is about a specific condition or field of study, this should be highlighted).
c. You must highlight the two medical issues from the book that you will discuss in the report.2. Body Paragraphs:
d. You can organise the body paragraphs as you wish, but there should be a clear division between the two medical issues.
e. You must select two medical issues covered in the book (e.g. patient autonomy, viruses, disease, specific treatment or intervention).
f. You need to discuss these issues by referring to material not only from the book, but also from additional references.
You can source these references from your course textbooks, or reliable online sources for general medical information (e.g. WebMD).3. Conclusion:
