What year was Abraham Lincoln elected president?

The split in the Democratic Party insured Lincoln’s election.

Lincoln won the election of 1860 despite getting less than 40 % of the popular vote. But he gained enough electoral votes in the much more populated North to defeat his three opponents.

His election led directly to secession. Within two months, seven southern states had seceded because they feared a Republican president would try to end slavery.
