“The gold rush in California took place from 1848-1855. Many people travelled from different countries to seek gold. The gold rush changed California to a commercial empire. The gold rush revolutionized America and the beginning of greed began. Thousands set sail to California in hopes of reaching gold. Many saw this as their chance to reach their own American dream. Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo was a military commander and the 1ststate senate in California. He introduced the 1st wave of 49ers. He set out his ranch in Sonoma, Ca and many people came to work for him. Many of her workers sought out for gold like everyone else. As gold became more scarce foreigners were pushed aside. Many people from China, Hawaii, and Mexico came to California to find gold. In 1850, there was a push for California to have a government system. The more and more people who came to California were upsetting the citizens of the US because gold was becoming harder to find. In 1850, there was a $20 tax towards any gold miners who were not U.S. citizens. This was a very high fee for many people to pay and drove them away. For those who stayed it only became harder. Chinese migrants were seen as inferior. They seemed to always make a profit and it infuriated the Americans. The Chinese worked twice as hard as anyone else and would always succeed. Chinese were pushed to dry and deserted location and they were still able to find gold. Later on a new tax was implemented many Americans burned down their homes and even murdered the Chinese. They were also denied citizenship. As gold became more scarce Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo was betrayed by his own American friends. Legal thieves took his land and reduced his acreage. Because of the gold rush San Francisco acquired more residents. In 1849 there was a total of 2,000 residents and that following year there were 35,000 residents. Many groups were discriminated and pushed away by paying a tax to mine. ”
