For this assignment you will research a federal agency’s budget. First, you must pick a federal agency (no state or local agencies and no non profits). You cannot do the CIA. Then you must answer the following questions about your agency. Write your answers in the format of a research paper with different sections and cite your sources. THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS MUST BE ANSWERED IN THE RESEARCH PAPER:
1. What is your agency’s mission statement?
2. What group of people/business/organizations does your agency serve?
3. When was your agency created? Why was your agency created? What was its initial purpose?
4. What policies does your agency implement?
5. What has been your agency’s budget for the last 20 years? Give specific amounts. Has it changed over time? Has it changed with different presidential administrations?
6. What are the different items and areas on which your agency spends money?
7. How is the budget allocated? I.e. How does your agency receive money, and for what period of time (annually, bi-annually, etc.)?
8. What are the politics surrounding your agency? Have those politics impacted your agency’s budget?
