What does family mean to me?

In this discussion, I would like you to examine how conceptions of “family” are culturally based.  One way to do this is by exploring your own family patterns, the patterns of other families (people you know), or of fictional families that you have encountered through literature or the mass media.  Some questions to think about:  What is your own cultural history?
Identify, if possible, the culturally based conception of “family” with which they were raised.

Are deceased relatives considered ‘family’?  or  Are second and third cousins really considered family?
Under what conditions are friends members of the family?  How are unrelated godparents viewed?
What do YOU think about the changes in family that have occurred?  How important is communication under changing circumstances?
Be as creative as you wish in this discussion about what it means to be a ‘family’ these days.
Here are some general guideline that you will need to keep in mind for this post as well as the others that we will do for this course:

1.  Treat your initial post as an essay (a couple of paragraphs in length).  Use textbook or video ideas and provide page numbers or video number.

2.  Edit all posts for wording, punctuation, capitalization, and general form.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.
