Your second major assignment will be a persuasive paper about Watchmen. In this essay, you will make a specific argument about the text. This argument can be related to the text’s quality, to the text’s hidden meanings, to the idea that this text is not about what people think it is about, or to anything else that is arguable and related to the text. As part of this, you will want to point to specific details, scenes, or information in and about the text to support your argument. You will want to ensure that you sum up your argument early in a very specific thesis statement, and that everything else in the paper supports that argument/thesis.

Your paper should be approximately five pages (double-spaced, in 12-point font), and you will only turn in one final draft. However, you can meet with me during office hours if you would like feedback on an earlier draft. Your paper will be graded on how well you’ve set up your argument (i.e., how good is your thesis statement, is it specific, do you bring evidence for it, etc.), how well you support your argument using specific evidence (i.e., quotes, mention of specific incidents, etc.), and finally on how well your paper is structured and flows (i.e., are things in a logical order, are you avoiding abrupt changes of subject, etc.). You are required to use at least two reputable external sources for this paper, and you will want to ensure that these are cited correctly in either MLA or APA format. In addition, grammar and spelling will also be a small part of your paper grade.
