Virginia Tech Review Panel – 2007
Paper details:
EDUC 746 Case Study and Instructions On Monday, April 16, 2007, in two attacks, Seung-Hui Cho opened fire on the campus on Virginia Tech killing 32 and wounding 29 people including students and faculty. He then committed suicide. Just as the Columbine Massacre impacted secondary education in America, so to the Virginia Tech Massacre has impacted college and university campuses. In the years since the Virginia Tech killings, many reports have been produced at the federal, state, local, and university level. Campus security policies and procedures changed nation-wide. Of particular importance is the analysis of the role of professors, administrators and mental health professionals on a campus in dealing with conflict. Confidentiality in mental health treatment, the right to bear arms on a campus, reporting to law enforcement, and many other important issues are topics of conversation on campuses. As educational leaders, it is imperative that we study and learn from such horrifying situations. We pray that such an incident will never occur on our watch. We also are obligated to learn and prepare. Here is the a link to a report produced about the case study.
