Ensure a quiet room

There were two tasks done:

Description task

Show each participant a set of 12 faces, each face would be presented for 5 seconds. The picture was then removed and had to wait 5 seconds ( times using a stop watch ) The participant then has 15 seconds to briefly describe what the person looks like for each face.

Once the 12 set of faces had been seen and described… They were then put into a pile of 24 faces.. So the 12 pictures the participant had seen and 12 the participant has not seen and then the pictures were mixed up to be randomised.

I then showed the participant 24 faces and the participant had to state YES or NO if they recognised a face that they saw previously with no time limit

No task

12 faces were presented, each face was presented for 5 seconds, the picture was then removed and the participant had to stay quiet for 15 seconds (not say or do anything)

After each face the participant stayed quite until the 15 seconds were over and the next face was presented. Then the 12 pictures the participant had seen and 12 the participant has not seen and then the pictures were mixed up to be randomised. I then showed the participant 24 faces and the participant had to state YES or NO if they recognised a face that they saw previously with no time limit.

When the faces were randomized into 24… If the participant had correctly recognised a face… I would write down on a response sheet ( that the participant could not see as hit ( which means they were correct, they did see the face previously).. if they said yes to a face they have not seen or No to a face they have seen then it would be False alarm . because they made an incorrect error .

Once our class had completed their individual research … we then put all our data together.

From the data we are expecting to see a higher rate of hits and lower rate of false alarms in the descriptive condition.. However all finds must be described and also if what we expected was correct or not.
