Facebook is one of the largest and commonly used social networks in the world. Many
people young or old, institutions, religious groups and all other types of groups embrace
Facebook in order to communicate and share information. Facebook has recently been abused by
some malicious users due to the high number of users in the social network. A lot of personal
data is available on Facebook which can be accessed by so many people meaning that
infringement of personal rights is possible. This has resulted to Facebook administrators to adopt
a user information policy that will help them manage this personal data and also use it for
various reasons.
The current user information policy that is adopted by Facebook entails collection of
personal data and recording of various activities that a user is involved in. Some of the
information, which is collected, includes the information about the things that a user does and
also the type of information that he/she provides (Marichal, 2012). This includes details about
the time one signs up, the message sent to others and even the content you provide. The other
type of information that they collect is the information about the things other people engage in
including the time they share your photo. They are also able to check your network connectivity
and the groups and pages that you are in so that they can know the type of people you interact
with. They are also able to record the information about the devices that one is using like the
mobile phones and computers as well as the connectivity and locations like GPS, Wi-Fi signals
and time zones among others….
