Project Description:
The University has 6 different coalitions. Coalitions at the university are organizations based on race, gender, and/or sexual affiliation. The coalitions include the Black/African Coalition, Asian/Asian Pacific American Coalition,Rainbow Coalition, Coalition of International Students, American Indian Coalition, and El Concilio(Hispanic/Latino) Coalition. Each one of these 5 coalitions have a purpose to uplift their population, provide a sense of community, foster hobbies, and give students the right resources to succeed academically. Under each one of these coalitions there are many different student organizations that revolve around the purpose. There is an organization called Culture at the university that works to facilitate each one of these organizations and provide structure, advice, and help each one of these coalitions. Culture at the university was given to the students by the dean’s office to help create awareness of people from a cultural perspective.
Recently there have been issues to try and retain members for not only the coalitions but for the individual organizations. There are a number of factors that influence these events, but finding the ultimate cause of this issue to help increase the number of culturally aware students at the university. This would help benefit people when they go out to work in the industry. Throughout this project we want to analyze the current types of recruitment and retainment of students through each one of these coalitions. We also want to try and foster relationships between each one of the coalitions through Culture at the university so that they actually work together to help alleviate and or mitigate social and political problems that happen at the university.
