Each student is required to read or re-read the book tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.
A 3 page review of the book is required to be written by each student. The review should include but not be limited to the following:
What was your reaction to the book? Did you enjoy reading it or did you find it difficult to read?
What do you think about the characters in the book (Morrie and Mitch)? Did your opinions and/or attitudes change about them as you read further into the book? If so, how? If not, how did you originally formulate your opinions about both of them?
In the chapter titled “Taking Attendance” Mitch reflects on the following thought shared by Morrie,
‘So may people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem
half-asleep, even when they’re busy doing things they think are
important. This is because they’re chasing the wrong things. The
way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving
others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote
yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning’ (p. 43).
What does this quote mean to you? How do you see this in your life? Do you find
these words to be of wisdom? What can you take from this passage?
Pick two of Morrie’s lessons in life (death, family, emotions, fear of aging, money, love, marriage, culture, or forgiveness). What insight did you gain from these topics? Have you changed the way you think about these areas after reading the book? How so? If not, what is your philosophy on those two topics?
What are your feelings on death and dying? Elaborate.
