Order Description
This semester, we have examined both historical figures and writers who challenged the status quo and lived interesting and fulfilling lives outside the traditional roles defined by society. They have challenged social rules, science, technology, gender roles, and so on, not only to benefit themselves by living lives they created but to benefit others as well. In a minimum two- page, maximum three-page paper referencing at least three specific individuals and their contributions that we have discussed, write an essay in which you reflect upon how such people have challenged you to reconsider the traditional boundaries of your own life and the ways in which you interact with others in the larger society.
Obviously, you may write in the first person (I) in this essay, but not the second person (you). Refer to historical figures and events in the past tense, but write about your own experience in the present and future tenses.
You must write a traditional essay, with an introduction that ends in an overtly-stated thesis statement, a body, and a conclusion that is not merely a rehashing of what you have already said. Use standard MLA guidelines for formatting papers, including double-spacing, a 12-point Times New Roman font, and the required heading and header. Be sure to proofread and edit your work several times; poor grammar, mechanical, and stylistic control can sabotage your grade.
If you decide to include quotes, summaries, or paraphrases from the primary works you mention, you will need to include in-text citations and WC page. Of course, assertions are strengthened by support, so that’ a good idea.
I hope you enjoy looking back over the work you have done this semester and choosing people who have really made you think or inspired you.
