Research Paper Instructions and Outline
As part of your requirements for this course, you are expected to prepare a short research paper of no more than 5 pages that discusses a current organizational issue or problem that you believe can impact the performance of a public organization if it is not properly addressed. The issues or problems to be addressed should be drawn from the following: Ethical problems in organizations, issues of gender bias, the relevance of an organizational culture in an organization, characteristics or attributes that the modern organization manager must have, benefits and disadvantages of performance evaluations, what organizational theory is appropriate for the contemporary work environment, (Choose from the classics such as Max Weber, Henri Fayol, Frederick Taylor, Luther Gulick or from the Human Relations Theory Period that includes Kurt Lewin, Abraham Maslow, Douglas McGregor). Why must public organizations develop strategies for succession planning?, How can diversity be managed within a public organization so as to leverage the skills, knowledge and abilities of its workforce? Why are teams used in many contemporary organizations? Total Quality Management and its Importance in Organizational Efficiency, Effective Motivational Strategies that Enhance employee productivity. You are allowed to use other credible sources outside your textbook (such as credible journal articles and other textbooks) to complete your research. DO NOT CHOOSE ANY TOPICS FOR YOUR PAPER OUTSIDE THOSE RECOMMENDED ABOVE
The paper should consist of the following outline:
1. Introduction: Use no more than a page to explain the purpose of your paper and its relevance to organizational theory and behavior. For example, the last paragraph of your introduction should include the following: This paper seeks to explore the relationship between proper motivation and performance or increase in productivity in organizations
2. Background: In this section, use no more than a page to explain the basis or rationale for your inquiry. Why are you interested in this topic? Are you aware of any work that has been done in this area? Is the problem an issue that you have encountered on the job or is it an important issue that organizational managers are grappling with? Have you attempted to address this issue previously on the job by using an interview, survey, or other techniques.?
3. Literature Review: In this section of your paper use about another page or page and a half to cite about three literature sources to demonstrate, for the benefit of the reader, that your area of inquiry or topic is relevant to contemporary organizations and is worth addressing.
4. Analysis: Here, you should use no more than one page to briefly examine the impact that this issue has on organizational performance whether or not it is properly dealt with.
5. Conclusion: In this section, you should use no more than half a page to a page to comment on the degree or extent to which you believe this issue or problem be examined and resolved in order to improve organizational performance
