Research Project Planning Paper & Annotated Bibliography

After your first two weeks of explorations, you will now start to plan for a research paper. The topic is a topic of your choice. You will want to select a topic that you are interested in; you will also want to make sure that your topic is arguable (with supporting facts rather than just opinions).

When one plans for a research project, there are questions to be asked and steps to be followed. The Craft of Research describes one approach you can use in Chapter 3, which is among your reading assignments for this week. Please read it carefully before you start your written assignment.

You will want to think about a topic that is focused and for which you think you can find the required number of (recent) sources. You will also want to make sure that you will have enough material – ideas and support for the ideas from reliable sources – to fill the required number of pages.

Please explore all readings and the online library before you start writing, so that you can be sure that are you on the right track.

The Assignment Text:

For this week’s assignment, you will submit a paper outlining your research strategy that will support the development of your research project. Your paper should present your research topic, research question(s) and its significance. The paper should include three (3) to five (5) sources in an annotated bibliography format that will aid in answering your research questions. Use APA or MLA to format each source according to how it would appear in a bibliography. You should also include in your paper a response to the following questions:

Why is this an important area to research?

What do you hope to learn?

You should follow the 3-step formula in The Craft of Research, Chapter 3, p. 35-50.

You are required to follow APA guidelines to complete your assignments. This week you will use APA to structure the paper and annotated bibliography. There is a 800 word minimum requirement. (Review the grading rubrics for written assignments).
