One consequence of the Australia-US Free Trade Agreement of 2004 was to extend the ‘key period’ of copyright protection from 50 to 70 years. Do you believe this extension was justified?
In giving your answer, discuss what you understand by the concept of copyright ‘ownership’, including (but not limited to) the context of ‘exclusive’ versus ‘monopoly’ rights, and reach a principled position by discussing and reflecting upon the fundamental rationales that ground (and justify) the law of copyright.
