Actions for DQ3: Perceptions about Big Data Analytics & Cyber Defense
Must post first.
The Ponemon Institute reported differences in the perceptions of big data analytics (as applied to the problem of cyber defense) in the following sectors:
• financial services
• manufacturing
• government
How do these perceptions differ? Why?
(See narrative and figures 10, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, & 23)
Your initial posting should be 250+ words and be supported by citations and references in APA format.

Actions for DQ1: Big Data Analytics and Cybersecurity
Must post first.
The term Big Data was coined in 1972. It is not a new technology. The term data analytics has been around as long if not longer. (Look up the US Census statistical summaries from the early 19th century for examples.) So … if these technologies have been around for a very long time (relatively speaking) why are we studying them in this course?
The answer is that the combining of two existing technologies along with advances in supporting hardware and software plus the addition of the Internet of Things … has resulted in a *new* application of technology which is currently in the emerging stage. We call this emerging application of technologybig data analytics.
Emerging applications of Big Data Analytics in the cybersecurity domain are seen as potential solutions which can detect, prevent, and deter increasingly sophisticated and persistent cyber attacks.
Using information from this week’s readings, write a 250+ word analysis of the contributions that big data analytics to cyber defense (i.e. the problem of defending against criminal enterprises and nation state actors who engage in terrorism and/or cyber warfare).
What are some of the barriers to wide-spread adoption of cyber defenses based upon big data analytics?
