Topic: Current Event Topic Foreign Policy

study two foreign policy current events and write a two-page paper on each of them.

The first page should summarize what the foreign policy current event is, who the relevant actors are, what is at stake for each of the actors, how the event began, and where it might be going.
The second page should tie what we have learned in the course together with this particular current event.
For example, if a paper were to be written on the negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program, one might explore the topics of rationality, statecraft, the efficacy or inefficacy of economic sanctions, alliance formation, psychological profiling of Iranian leaders, the regional context, possible consequences of military confrontation, and so on.

The purpose of the paper is to apply concepts we have learned in class to the analysis of a particular policy issue. You should discuss what policy options you would choose if you were dealing with this issue from the perspective of the relevant actors. For example, you should take into consideration the Iranian perspective, the perspective of the West/United States, and whatever other actor perspectives you estimate to be significant in the analysis of the subject, if you were to focus on the issue of the Iranian nuclear program.
