The format for the paper, without exception, should follow APA format. This means that a title page, abstract, as well as a reference page must be included.
Total length for the body of the paper should be a minimum of four pages, and maximum of eight pages.
Paper should include an introduction. The introduction should include the reason for or supportive documents for why the paper is being written and include a thesis statement. For the purpose of this paper, the introduction might include an introduction of the theorist, the reason the theorist was chosen and/or a brief statement of the importance the theorist has had to the nursing profession.
The thesis statement should end the introduction and direct the reader as to what the remaining paper will discuss.
The body of the paper should briefly describe the theorist and summarize the main points of the theory which they contributed to nursing. Confirm that the reader has a clear understanding of who the theorist is/was and the perspective they bring to nursing. Compare and contrast the theorist with the major themes in the University curriculum: Caring, Health, Learning, Nursing and Commitment to Human Dignity.
Are the University themes in contrast or support of the chosen theorist? Describe why you chose this theorist and how this theoretical perspective influences your nursing practice. For example, discuss how this theoristÂ’s view affects your choice of nursing roles, and/or setting of practice, the role of the individual, family and other health disciplines in providing patient care.
Other issues to discuss may include quality of care, nursing process and professional autonomy.
End the theory paper with a conclusion that summarizes the key points of the paper. Remember that the conclusion is the last thing an instructor reads. A conclusion should be reflective and concise. Use at least five professional references (not including the textbook).
Seek as current references as possible, within the last five years.
There must be one source written by the theorist, this reference may not be current.
Include a research article related to the theorist, if possible (this would be an evidence based article which supports the theory).
