The world is flat report

The world is flat reportInternational Marketing Book Report Assignment

Book: Thomas Friedman’s – The World is Flat, Version 3.0

Assignment: All students will read Chapters One through Four and Chapter Seventeen. Just in case you get a different version (of the book) here are the chapter names that are required reading:
Chapter 1 – While I Was Sleeping
Chapter 2 – The Ten Forces That Flattened The World
Chapter 3 – The Triple Convergence
Chapter 4 – The Great Sorting out
Chapter 17 – 11/9 Versus 9/11
Additionally, each student will pick one chapter from Chapters Five through Sixteen to read and report on.

It is strongly recommended that each student view this 48-minute video before reading the book. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcE2ufqtzyk

Report Content:
The report is to contain the following:
Begin with an overview of what you have read by laying out some of the key points that made you really think about what was written by Friedman. For example, maybe one or two of his ten ‘flatteners’ upset you or made you say, “Aha, now I understand why this is happening”. Or perhaps his ‘11/9 versus 9/11’ analogy made you put one or both of the events of these dates in a different perspective.

Your overview will set the mood for the rest of your report. I do not want a recap of what Friedman wrote, but how WHAT he wrote affected you and how it made you understand the world a little more or a little less. This is a personal report of how YOU FEEL about the book.
• How did or will this book affect your outlook on how you will do business both domestically and internationally?
• What parts of the book did you already know and has his writing affected your opinion on this topic?
• What part(s) of the book was a complete surprise to you and how do you feel about this new information you have just learned?
• What were some of the assumptions Friedman made and do you agree with these assumptions? Why and/or why not?
• What part(s) of the book do you strongly agree and disagree with and why.

Regarding the chapter you selected on your own:
• Why did you choose this chapter without having read it?
• Did this chapter meet, exceed, or disappoint any expectations you had before reading it?
• What are the some of the key points made by Friedman in this chapter and how do you feel about them? Agree? Disagree?

This report should conclude with a brief discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of the book and if you would recommend this book to be read by anyone, who would that be and why.

Report Format:
This book report should be between 5 – 7 pages in length, double-spaced, using 12 point Times Roman, with 1 inch margins and page numbers (centered) and your last name at the bottom right hand side of the page. No cover sheet is necessary.
