The ways of meeting opperssion
Paper instructions:
1) Start your summary with the title of essay and the author, so the reader is familiar with the story before you jump into the analysis.

2) Summarize the story in 4-5 sentences. Your summary should NOT include unnecessary details or unrelated material. Your summary should draw from the parts of the text that cover identity creation.

3) What is the main idea of the reading? What does the text tell us about identity?

4) What is the author’s intended or global purpose in writing this essay/short story? Basically, what does the writer want readers to get out of the story in terms of identity? What issues does it bring to light?

5) What is the background of this essay/short story? What was going on (socially, politically, etc.) at the time this essay was written?

6) Support what you think the purpose is with relevant quotes from the text. There should be at least two quotes in this rhetorical summary. Those quotes must relate to identity and should not be chosen at random. Put thought into why you chose that quote.

7) How does what the story says about identity relate to your own definition of identity?
