The Sicilian Expedition

The Sicilian Expedition
Order Description
You do not need to cite lecture, but you must cite all other sources you use. Use only the readings outlined in the questions. Use footnotes.

Do not use in-text citations. Cite Thucydides as in note 2 below.
ex:::: Thuc. 1.140.

The first time you use the textbook, cite it as in note 3 below.
ex::::: Sarah Pomeroy, et al. Ancient Greece: A Political, Social and Cultural History, 3rd ed. (New York: Oxford University Press, 2012), 75.

After its first use, cite the textbook as in note 4 below.
EX:::: Pomeroy, Ancient Greece, 77.

The goal of this assignment is for you to practice analyzing primary sources and incorporating them into your writing. You should quote judiciously from the primary sources. As with all written work in this course, your analysis should be written in clear academic prose. This is not a journal entry, but a work of historical analysis.

Paper grades are based on the following four criteria: Argument (thesis, conclusion, answered the question) (30%); Content (your use of evidence, your use of primary sources) (30%); Structure (the organization of your paper, transitions) (20%); Mechanics (grammar, syntax, spelling, instructions followed) (20%).

PAPER THREE TOPIC: The Sicilian Expedition

Using the following selections of Thucydides (Book 1.140-44, Book 6.1, Book 6.8-28, Book 7, Book 8.1-2), your knowledge of the Peloponnesian war (i.e. what you have learned in lecture), and your textbook (Ancient History), Answer the following question::::

Was the Athenian decision to lead an expedition against Sicily a mistake?????????

In developing your answer pay close attention to the goals outlined by various Athenian statesmen throughout the war. In doing so, consider whether or not the expedition was a failure of strategic planning (i.e. was the idea of invading Sicily good or bad for the Athenians’ long term goals) or of tactical execution (i.e. was the actual implementation of the plan a failure).
This paper must be in Footnotes!!!!!!! with each footnote even if its the same source it needs to have a page number on where to find it..
I say again it must be in footnotes..
the two sourses i want to use are
1) Strassler, Robert, ed. The Landmark Thucydides. New York: Touchstone, 1996. ISBN 10: 0684827905
2) Pomeroy, Sarah B., Stanley Burstein, Walter Donlan, Jennifer Tolbert Robers, and David Tandy. Ancient Greece: A Political, Social, and Cultural History (3rd Edition). New York: Oxford University Press, 2012.
… IT MUST BE THESE 2 BOOK as a references.. page numbers will count as additional references.. PLZ make sure you add the page numbers each time you use the references
