The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) will soon go into contract negotiations with the federal government to decide the terms of collective agreements that
cover more than 110,000 federal government employees. The current federal government has said it will use this round of bargaining to lower its payroll costs by
changing longstanding protections, including paid sick leave which employees earn and accumulate to use in times of need. The government has said that federal
employees are treated too well in relation to other employees.
Write an 800 word essay (an opinion piece in your own words) that examines the position of the government and tell us what you think the PSAC could say to convince the
public that the government’s approach to bargaining is wrong.
