The main parties that participated in the French and Indian War were the British and French, with Native Indian tribes on both sides. Before the war began, England had much more political involvement in it’s colonies than France, as the French exerted more of a loose control. The war commenced due to competing claims regarding the Ohio River valley, thought to be the most fertile land in America, by the Indians, Virginians, Pennsylvanians, and the French in Canada. Without the consent of any of the other interested parties, the Virginians, which were British colonists, decided to conceive the Ohio Company in the early 1750s as a means in which to go ahead and develop around 200,000 acres in western Pennsylvania. The French, who were looking to defend their interests, responded by fortifying the area. Unhappy with the French fortifications, the Virginians eventually ambushed a French scouting party, and ultimately the French and Indian War began.

The British, and their supporting Indian tribes were conclusively crowned victors, and the war, along with the entire North American French Empire, officially came to an end in 1763 with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The immediate aftereffects of the war and treaty presented England and Spain as the real winners. England absorbed all of France’s former territory in Canada, in addition to France’s former land west of the Appalachian Mountains and east of the Mississippi, and even acquired Florida from Spain. Great Britain had now gained a vast global empire. Despite losing Florida and not even partaking in the battle, Spain came out of this whole ordeal a real winner, as it collected all of France’s former land west of the Mississippi, known as the Louisiana Territory. The French and the Native Indian tribes really came out of the war as losers. There was now no piece of North American land with either one of their names officially on it.

The three main partcipants in the French and Indian war were Britain, France and native American allies on both sides; Britain at the time, was experiencing a period of political instability while French was more politically stable. However, the emergence of a firmer political leadership during the war, led Britain to achieve its war aim, by gaining success over France and making Britain the most powerful nation in the world. France, unable to reinforce canada effectively because of the British naval supremacy, lost their major stronghold of Quebec, as a result, France had to give up all claims in Cananda and North America. Based on the naval supremacy of the British, they won the Indian and French war which lasted seven years. Britain gained control of French Canada and Acadia and offered France the choice of either its North America possessios east of the Mississippi or the Caribean Islands of Guadeloupe and Martinez, but France chose to cede Canada, and was able to negotiate the retention of Saint Pierre and Miquelon.Though victorious, the seven year war created an enormous government debt for Britain, leading to new efforts to wring more government revenue from the British people, an attempt that was met with increasing resistance.

The relationship between England and North American colonies changed as a result of British imposed high taxes. This added to the resentment that America already felt towards the British prior to the proclamation of 1763, when the British took retribution against Native American nation that fought on the sides of the French, by cutting their supplies and forcing them to obey their rules. North American felt as if they had less liberty than Britain, they felt they deserved as much rights as Britain, this led to the conflict embodied in the rallying cries of the American Revolution.
