The Happiness Formula

The Happiness Formula

Happiness is an achievable state. The positive psychology model has determined that certain experiences assist in creating a lasting experience of happiness and well-being. According to this model, our ability to feel happiness is a direct function of our early experiences in relationships. Happiness is also created through a series of experiences that include acts of altruism and flow experiences.

Using the module readings, Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, research positive psychology. When conducting your Internet search, use the following keyword:

  • Authentic happiness

Then, view the following video from this module’s readings in the Readings and Assignments page:

  • Sweet, J., Streeter, S., & Bloom, A. (January 2010). Family, friends, and lovers. [This Emotional Life] Boston, MA: PBS/NOVA/WGBN.

Based on your research and analysis of the video, respond to the following:

  • Explain the connection between early relationships and reactive attachment disorder (RAD).
  • Explain how this connection might affect one’s ability to feel happy. Include your thoughts on the potential implications RAD has on developing relationships.
  • Include your interpretation of what is meant by the term “flow” according to the positive psychology model. Include how this assists in the creation of happiness.
  • Include a personal statement and description of when you personally experience flow.
  • Discuss why certain activities allow you to experience the concept of flow.
  • Discuss why altruistic acts also assist in experiencing a lasting state of happiness and well-being.
  • Explore and comment upon existing research in positive psychology that supports how love and relationships can facilitate the experience of happiness.
