The following questions concern your readings in Michael P. Johnson, Reading the American Past: Selected Historical Documents.  Each of your responses should be, at minimum, one full well-constructed paragraph (among other things, a well-constructed paragraph is at least five sentences long).  Feel free to use all of your readings to inform your answers.

Without a doubt, gender and race have been contentious issues throughout American History. Should the Enlightened ideals of Liberty, Equality, and Democracy apply to everyone?
1.    Are women equal to men? In what ways are men tyrannical. Use The Seneca falls Declaration in your answer (Document 12-2, pp. 235-238). In what ways are these complaints echoed in A Farmer’s View of His Wife (Document 12-3, pp. 238-240)?
2.    In many ways, Nat Turner’s rebellion exacerbated Southern fears of abolition (the end of slavery). What did Nat Turner do? Why did he do it? Use The Confessions of Nat Turner (Document 13-3, pp. 259-263) in your answer.
Why is slavery a good idea? Do you agree? Use Letter to an English Abolitionist in your answer (Document 13-4, pp. 263-267).
