The ethics of nanotechnology
Ethical Analysis Framework (Yuthas & Dillard, 1999)
1. Identify the primary ethical dilemma in the case.
2. List the stakeholders in the case. Identify rights of each stakeholder.
3. List and describe alternative courses of action that may be taken and the likely consequences of each proposed action for each stakeholder. (Include respect for persons, beneficence, harms, benefits, justice and fairness, as appropriate.)
4.From a teleological or utilitarian perspective which action is morally right? Explain.
5.From a deontological or rights-based perspective which action is morally right? Explain.
Make sure it is clear where in the paper you are addressing each of the 5 elements of the framework. Make use of the ethics terminologyrights, respect, beneficence, harms, benefits, justice, and fairness, etc. You dont need to take a position on the issue, just describe alternative courses of action and connect one of the alternative courses of action in #3 to #4 utilitarian and one of the courses of action in #3 to #5 rights-based.
