Technology and Art
One of these questions needs to be answer by Source: A Gift of Fire Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues for Computing Technology by Sara Baase (Chapter 4) and put into APA format
1. How have changes in recording and broadcasting technologies changed musical forms? What effect did the transistor radio have on the shape of popular music? Did music (or musicians) change with the introduction of video technology? Will technology make certain art forms obsolete? Or will new art evolve with the creation of new technologies? Or will both continue to coexist side by side? Cite examples to support your position.
2. Contemporary music often uses computer-based technology to enhance its effect. Do you think technology (think sampling, AutoTune, etc.) has contributed to the evolution of music, or has technology hindered musical development?

3. Will 3-D television be widely accepted? Why or why not? What makes it different from 3-D movies?

Digital Technologies
One of these questions needs to be answer by Source: A Gift of Fire Social, Legal, and Ethical Issues for Computing Technology by Sara Baase (Chapter 4) and put into APA format
1. There are many ramifications to this week’s question, from whether special effects in films have eroded the quality of acting to whether these special effects continue to raise the price of movies to the point that they are becoming hardly affordable. In the end, it is all a question of whether this new trend really makes films “better.” So what do you think, when we look at films like Casablanca and films like Avatar, can we categorically say that the special effects have highlighted the lesser quality of those older films?

2. Can social networking media democratize democracy? How has Twitter been used in recent elections? Is there such a thing as too much democracy?

3. As many of your posts suggest, given today’s movie options, it would be difficult for us to have this discussion without addressing the movie “Avatar.” The following link takes you to a CNN article that discusses the financial aspect of the movie which combines CGI with live action. The article reports that although Cameron conceived of the idea ten years ago, he had to wait for technology to catch up with him. Let me know what you think. http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/12/07/avatar.gianopulos/index.html
