The student must select a topic of interest from the list provided below in
Hospitality/Tourism/Gastronomy/Events which they have not undertaken as an
assessment piece in any other WAI subject.
Preamble: An important preliminary task when doing research is to find the body of
knowledge that exists in relation to your research interest. This is done by reviewing
the existing literature and finding relevant information from creditable sources such
as established databases. This is known as doing a literature review and is critical to
academic research and the basis for how you conduct the rest of your investigation.
In this essay you will select one topic from the list below and do a preliminary
investigation (literature review) of an issue/problem within that topic.
Pick your topic carefully and confirm with your tutor that your selection is acceptable
because this assignment will be the foundation for Assignment Two.
Note that this assignment requires a professional presentation with an introduction
and background to the chosen topic, an identification of the main issues revealed
and an analysis and discussion of these issues. What it all means is covered in the
conclusion. References in APA style are to be included in-text and in the reference
list. References, diagrams and tables are not included in the word count.
All your references should be kept in your EndNote library.

providers. Analyse the existing research.
Topic 5: Event Impacts on Tourism.
While events are run in specific or selected locales, they can be major sources of
tourism that impact the local community. Analyse the existing research.
