Writing Assignment 3 Due Week 4 Friday by 5:00 pm PST.
Instructions for your Final Paper – so please ask questions as you need. You will be using course materials as well as outside materials (textbooks, journal articles – many of which you can find online) and I expect that you cite your work properly. This is a senior/graduate level course and my expectation is that you know how to cite another’s work or thoughts appropriately, so if you are unsure, just pick up any journal article and take a look how this is done. It is not that hard to do and a good thing to learn.

…….

Pick a natural resource topic you wish to investigate. Be specific! For example, Clearcut logging after the Biscuit fire; Water supply issues in the Klamath Basin, The effects of urban sprawl in metro Seattle on endangered fish species, Water quality issues in Foster Lake (or some lake) due to motorized boating. I think you get the idea. Pick something that interests you.
You will need to do the following for your paper:
First 1) choose a situation statement that describes the problem. This can be several sentences or 1-2 short paragraphs. Then 2) choose 3 targets (goals) that you want to correct, fix, improve or change. Then 3) choose 3 pathways for achieving your goals and list them in order of preference (do not use education as a pathway).

…….

Your final paper should include the following 4 Elements:
1. State your situation statement – a clear concise statement of what the problem is.
Choose 3 targets – what is it about your situation specifically you want to fix and list them in the order of your preference with #1 being your top choice. Then choose 3 potential pathways (that’s the “how to” part) based on your #1 Target, and list those in the order of preference, with #1 being your top choice of pathways.
.
2. Provide some background on your issue (with appropriate references and citations and bibliography.
3. Describe what it means to “work through an issue rather than working around an issue.” Which is better and why?
4. Describe to me the political, economic, societal, and environmental consequences of your pathways.
Minimum pages – 3-4 double-spaced (no title page please). 1 inch margins all sides, top and bottom, 12 point regular font. Be sure to cite your sources!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOTE: You will need to conduct some research on this, and it will need to be a tightly written paper (proper spelling, grammar, coherent sentences, and some thoughtfulness). If you need help, contact me. I am more than happy to help you if you need help. Please don’t wait until the last minute to ask for assistance.
