summary of the chapter (hip hop music)

summary of the chapter (hip hop music)

Order Description

Section Writing Assignment
Read Imani Perry’s chapter, “Stinging Like Tabasco: Structure and Format in Hip Hop
Compositions,” from Prophets of the Hood: Politics and Poetics in Hip Hop (available online as
an ebook through the library).
Write a summary of the chapter. The summary should be between one and two pages. Text
should be double spaced, font sized twelve, regular margins. Summaries should address, similar
to our breakdown of Tricia Rose’s chapter from the second section, (a) the thesis of the chapter,
(b) the arguments which support the chapter’s thesis, and (c) a critical reflection on which places
the chapter’s thesis within its broader academic context. Each summary should end with a
properly formatted bibliography which cites the chapter, and direct quotes are to be cited
properly. Use MLA or Chicago format, guidelines for both are available online.
Assignments are worth 10% of your grade. See the syllabus for guidelines regarding assignments
turned in late. The grade breakdown will be as follows:
