Style Approach

According to (Northouse, 2013), there exists a number of approaches that a leader can implement to enhance the overall business performance. The style approach, takes account of the leader’s behavior towards the employees in general. The task behavior takes into context the leader’s drive towards the accomplishment of the set goals, and disregards the channel used. On the other hand the relationship behavior is inclined towards employee satisfaction by creating a favorable environment.

The degree of compliance to the two behaviors is moderately high. Both approaches relate to the managerial grid, with specific interest being on the country club management and authoritative management. Both forms of leadership are not effective whenever implemented individually, which is emphasized by the score interpretation which ranges between 35 and 36. Both approaches must be harmonized, which calls for the implementation of team management. According to (Giuliani & Kurson, 2002), team management balances out the efforts geared towards ensuring subordinate satisfaction, while at the same time structuring the business into a goal oriented institution. This only emphasizes the leadership approach, and does not specifically have to dwell on one behavior.

Notably, the relationship behavior serves as a motivation approach, which may increase the total output of individual employees. A good relationship with the employees, not only instills confidence and the urge to comply with the set regulations, but it also ensures that the employees relate to the set goals. The implementation of different leadership skills enables the leader to choose the best approach that suits his/her employees.

The criteria may vary depending on the task allocated, and the perception that different employees have towards the management. The leader may work on such lines, so as to reap the maximum output from both quarters. As illustrated above, the relationship behavior ensures that a bond is established with the different employees, which may surpass the impact that a goal oriented approach may have on the overall attitude towards performance. As a result, the relationship behavior may be the best alternative to effective leadership in the event that an alternative style cannot be used.
