As you know, 20% of your final grade is based on participation (10/20 from your thought pieces and 10/20 for in-class participation). If you are interested in boosting your participation by 1 or 2 marks, you may complete this optional thought piece. In the assigned readings for April 3 (Electronic/Dance/House), several concepts/ideas are emphasized, including the following:
? technological advancements
? performance aesthetics
? symbolic boundaries
? authenticity
Although these concepts are emphasized in this week?s readings, they can also be ?seen? elsewhere. For this optional thought piece (approx. 300-400 words), your task is to select one or two of these concepts, and reflect on the various different places we can see them in action, as well as the specific forms they take. You can draw upon the readings for the course, the documentaries we have watched, and/or ?real-world? settings (related to music) outside of the course material. If you select one concept, you will receive one bonus mark; if you select two concepts, you will receive two bonus marks.
