Sociology

Paper details:Qt. 1—General Social Survey 2010-2014
Sociologists and other social scientists have studied changing gender roles in the US and other populations (Tomeh 1978, Tomeh & Gallant 1983). Others (e.g., Amato & Booth 1995) have claimed that gender-role attitudes have moved toward non-traditionalism in recent decades. Using previous studies and data from the 2012 General Social Survey, do the following:

1. Conceptualize gender role or sex role. (An extensive literature review is not necessary. However, be sure to explain the concept clearly with supporting literature). At least two citations are expected. Identify items from the GSS that will enable you to create a scale to operationalize your concept. This portion should take about a page but feel free to exceed this by as much as you think necessary to make your point.
2. Select items from the General Social Survey that will help you to measure the construct of sex role or gender role as conceptualized. At least three items (but possibly more) are expected in the scale. List the items you select. Remember to ensure they are all coded in the same direction. If you recoded any item, state so in your report.
3. Create a scale to measure the construct you have defined and report its reliability as measured by Cronbach’s alpha. What does a high or low score mean on your scale?
4. Assess the validity of your scale by showing how it correlates with a variable it is theoretically expected to correlate with (either positively or negatively) and one that it is not expected to correlate with.

The report you turn in for grading should contain the following information:
viii. Conceptualization (based on previous research).
i. Items from the GSS and how they are scored. What high and low scores mean for the concept you are dealing with.
ii. Inter-item correlations—Present as a correlation matrix, indicating significant pairs.
iii. Descriptive statistics for the scale including Cronbach’s alpha (did you add or remove items in order to raise alpha?), scale mean, standard deviation, maximum, and minimum values.
iv. Discuss validity of your scale.
v. References
vi. Tables must be professionally prepared, i.e., do not import SPSS output into your work.
Qt. 2 General Social Survey 2010-2014
Examine the TV viewing patterns of US residents as reported by data in the 2010-2014 General Social Survey. The survey asked adults 18 years and older to report the number of hours spent watching TV on an average day (TVHOURS). Produce a variety of descriptive statistics from these data that enable you to adequately describe viewing habits as reported by the sample. Select at least 2 items from each of the following categories. Your goal is to paint a vivid picture of the viewing habits of the respondents.
1. Minimum, maximum, range. 3. Mean, trimmed mean, median, mode
2. Quartiles, interquartile range, percentiles 4. Variance, standard deviation.
What is your estimate of the hours spent watching TV in the population from which this sample comes? Based only on 95% confidence intervals, do you think men and women (SEX) differ in how much TV they watch? Explain the basis of your answer completely.

Notes:
1. In questions 3 variable names used in the relevant dataset are in UPPERCASE letters. It is incumbent on you to verify these from the codebooks and ascertain if other variables not shown are needed to answer the questions completely. If you recode any variables, indicate so in your response so the reader will understand your work.
2. No hypothesis tests are required; argue on the basis of descriptive statistics and/or confidence interval estimates for mean or proportion.
please answer questions #1 and 2 if you find that Question #3 easier than #2 please answer Questions 1 and 3, and use simple language because I am an international student, also; I attached
the two output for Q#1and 2 to apply them on the paper.
