sociology

sociologyPick at least one of the theoretical frameworks that we discussed in class and apply it to the contemporary family in all its aspects such as dating, cohabitation, marriage, divorce, parenting styles, etc. Begin your essay by discussing the theoretical framework in general. Your discussion of it should be a combination of class notes, readings from the text, as well as outside sources. o The paper should include your own thoughts or opinions that are supported by the literature. In short, I do not simply want a review of the literature nor do I want you to say something, I am in disagreement with the literature because my experience has been different.

Paper details:Read Yellow Dirt- (Yellow Dirt by Judy Pasternak)- Chapter by chapter synopsis (1 paragraph per chapter).

How to write a successful synopsis:

Each synopsis should be a concise but thorough overview of the article, written in complete sentences. Every chapter requires 1-2 paragraphs, minimum, to be complete.

Do’s:
Identify the main argument, or thesis, presented by the author in the assigned chapter.
State this main point in your own words as an ‘elevator statement.’ [Consider how this main point could be expressed in the time it takes to change floors in an elevator].
Discuss the evidence the author used to support the thesis.
Consider what policy implications are implicit in the author’s thesis. What does the author think needs to happen to improve the situation or correct the problem?
Be sure to bring a copy of your synopsis to class each day – you will need it to take part in the discussion.
Don’ts:
Don’t send your answers by e-mail. They must be entered on time through the link under ‘assignments’ on Blackboard.
Don’t pick something you ‘like’ or ‘don’t like’ and talk about that – this is a synopsis of the author’s work, not a discussion of what we like or don’t like about it.
Don’t waste space giving opinions about the topic itself. Limit your comments to what will be graded – your understanding of the author’s work.
Don’t use quotes – write in your own words.
