Explore the effects of social class on family structure and family living. Define social class. Explain the differences between the typical family arrangements, child-rearing practices, kinship and challenges within each of the social classes. How can you explain these differences?

Do not oversimplify or overcomplicate your language: avoid words such as “good or “bad” or big words that sound scientific, but can be replaced with a simple word that is typically used in its place (e.g., “utilize” vs. “use”)

Do use the language provided to you in the text book (e.g., typical terminology used in the field: “fertility rate”, “positive sanction”, “cultural transmission”, etc.)

Do not assume the reader has a profound knowledge of your material. Consider your parents or even grandparents when you write: you should make sure that audience that does not study sociology and has no clue about theory can make sense out of your project. So, explain every point you make – explicitly, provide necessary definitions

Do not use contractions, slang or shorthand

Absolutely no 1st or 2nd person writing. Write in the third person.

Do not write in questions (e.g., “Why would this be important?”): it is your task as an expert to explain the topic to the reader without leaving anything to interpretation. Questions move this responsibility onto the reader, while bringing in no new information – the very thing you want to avoid.

Absolutely no value judgments (such as “a huge impact”, “that is a good thing”, that is not a good idea”…)

Length: 3 pages minimum, 5 pages maximum for the total project text + bibliography and appendices (unlimited).

Absolutely no references to or citing of Wikipedia or dictionaries. Papers using this source will get an automatic zero.
