Social Benefits

Wal-Mart Company which is listed number 1 on the Fortune 500 companies and apple which is listed sixth on the list offers coverage for domestic partners (Lee and Hwang et al., 2014, pp. 316–334). They offer coverage to partners in a domestic relationship either of the same gender or of different genders provided the partners have lived together in a committed relationship for more than one year. These benefits range from medical covers to other social benefits. This case is however different with married couples who have been divorced. For the couple to apply for a retirement benefit after a divorce, the couple marriage must have lasted 10 years, currently unmarried and be sixty two years or older.

Companies will always require a waiting period after dissolution of marriage before putting the partner on beneficiary plan (Xin-Ying, 2013). This is the period where it will allow full settlement of the case to ensure that there is no reversion and also, the company will need to take it’s time to establish the eligibility of a person to access the benefits. It is during this time that the company will establish whether a spouse fit in the former spouses’ requirements so that he or she can be eligible.

Legislation will check whether the spouse had children. Biological and adopted children remain under the care of the parents and hence they are entitled to the TRICARE.

Legislation will consider the factors that were present during the employment period. These factors will most probably affect the rate of growth of a person in the employment; sticky floors are those conditions that will limit the employee from making progress as a result of discrimination (Luntz, 2009). Someone who was discriminated will be considered more.

Glass ceilings and glass windows are those factors that limit someone growth as a result of discrimination due to age or gender. Women are more probably to be discriminated on these bases. The legislation will most probably rule on their favor in cases of determining social benefits.
