Paper details:Now what should chapter 3 include? Chapter 3 is where you discuss where you got your data, talk about the type of data you are going to be collecting, and what kind of method(s) you are planning to use to analyze your data. Keep in mind that you don’t actually analyze your data in chapter 3. Instead, what you do is talk about your data and talk about how you are planning to analyze it. If you are going to be conducting quantitative data analysis, you would need to talk about what methods you are planning to use, or perhaps what model you are planning to analyze in a regression analysis, etc. You would then want to discuss why the data you have will work for the type of analysis you are planning. Also, you should provide some justification and explanation for any methods or models you are planning to conduct. Keep in mind that you do not present or discuss results in chapter 3.If you are planning to use qualitative data analysis techniques, you should probably check on-line or at a library (inter-library loan is a good option too) for some guidance on how to conduct qualitative analysis. It is not enough to say that you are going to interview someone to collect your data. You need to talk about how you are going to analyze the qualitative data once you have it. There are several rigorous qualitative methods out there ranging from grounded theory to thematic analysis to phenomenologies (and everything in-between). You need to use a rigorous method to analyze qualitative data and this is probably going to require some digging and investigation on your part if you are planning to use qualitative data and have never rigorously analyzed qualitative data before. Again, keep in mind that you do not present or discuss results in chapter 3. That is what chapter 4 is for.
Many of you will probably find that chapter 3 is likely to be one of your shorter chapters. That is normal, but just because it is usually a shorter chapter doesn’t mean it is less important.
Chapter 4 is where you present your research findings. This is where you discuss what you have found in your data analysis. This is where you will go through your results and interpret your findings. Chapter 4 is also where you will draw your conclusions as to what the answer to your research question is. This is very important! The ultimate objective of this entire paper is to answer your research question(s). However, Chapter 4 is not the place to discuss the implications of these findings or your own opinions–that will be the content in Chapter 5. Also, it is quite possible that your findings will not turn out as you expected–that is okay! A contrarian finding or even no finding is still a finding.
Take a look at Chapters 3 and 4 in the “Sample Project” in the content tab to get an idea of what is expected from these chapters and how to structure/arrange them.
