  1. Restatement of the research question in theory

Are elected leaders representative of social interests or scoundrels and unscrupulous lot who do anything to get power?

  1. Restatement of theory: Hypothesis

Elected leaders are representative of social interests of the people who elect them.

  1. Hypothesis for answering the research question.

In this phenomenon, getting to power is dependent on the many factors such as deception by the politicians, the power hunger by the politicians, and unfounded promises promised by the politicians. An independent variable like power hunger will vary between the many politicians who will be fighting for a particular seat.

  1. Falsification of the hypothesis

The hypothesis indicated above can be falsified. To prove it wrong, research will be done by collecting the available data or analyzing the available literature. After analyzing data, the hypothesis will be tested using a statistical measurement method like anova or chi-square.

  1. Why independent variable should be related to the dependent variable.

The independent variable should be related to the dependent variable because the former depends on the later. For example, in the phenomenon described in the theory of the hypothesis, getting to power depends on the tactics that the politician will use to convince the people. Such tactics that have been used by the politicians include giving unfounded promises, lying to the people and using bribing voters.

  1. Unit of analysis.

In the hypothesis developed above, the unit of analysis is the people who elect the leaders in the political positions. This is because they are the people who are affected by the leadership of the leaders they elect in the political offices.

  1. Potential alternative research hypothesis

The potential alternative research hypothesis for this research can be stated thus: Elected leaders are scoundrels who do anything to get to power. The first research hypothesis considered the elected representatives as being responsible and responsive to the needs of the people. It guessed that when they are elected, they will honor the promises they gave to the people. On the other hand, the alternative of this can be an assumption that the elected leaders are not atentive to the interests of the people, and that they do not honor the promises that they make to the people. According to Hoppe (88), many elected leaders perpetuate corrupt deals at the expense of the people, once they get to power.

  1. Consideration of experimental and observational research designs.

By considering experimental and observational research designs, the best method that fits the hypothesis stated above is the observational method. By using the observational methods, the researcher will be able to go down to the people and collect primary data from them. Also, by extending the period of research, the researcher can observe whether a political leader follows what they promised after they get into office. Another way in which this method will be effective; is by going down to the people, and getting their views about the leaders they elected, into office.

  1. Sources of data that will be used to analyze the relationship between the dependent and the independent variable.

One source of data that will be used to examine the relationship that exists between the dependent and the independent variable is primary data from the people. People will be interviewed about their experiences with the leaders they have been electing. The researcher will also make their observations concerning the subject. Secondary data available will be obtained from the available literature. Published materials concerning the subject will be reviewed under literature review.
