“We must work together to ensure the equitable distribution of wealth, opportunity, and power in our society”-Nelson Mandela
Homelessness has been a stumbling block throughout history .Regard as true, that the origin of homelessness is traced back during colonial America . As primal as 1640 , the english “hobos” were classified as outcast individuals . In the mid eighteenth century the homeless were found in every corner of the colonial towns . Throughout the American revolution , the homelessness accumulated like never before. Numerous individuals soon after the war were obtained into homelessness due to deficient needs. By the depression of 1857, majority of the growing cities were occupied of homeless people (Homelessness). Unfortunately homelessness endures constant till this day. Not knowing what they have been through people often look at them with disgust, horror and sometimes don’t even acknowledge them as if they are not humans. Income inequality affects many people especially the homeless, they struggle to get help, have to ask for money and most people think of them as lazy people who don’t want to better their living.
Homelessness has been on the rise. In spite of having more than enough houses to adequately shelter our population , three and half million homeless men, women and children live their lives sleeping in the streets (Sun). People debate whether the government should support the homeless or not . In reality the government does not help the homeless out , Yes there’s shelters but those shelters can only take a certain amount of people. The thing is that these ¨hobos” are not just adults there are families , toddlers, teens you name it . The parents of these children simply can’t afford to support their family , that’s why they end up without a home and have to stay in the streets and when they ask for help they don’t receive it. According to the article “Homeless” “ In 1996 , well known public assistance aid to families with dependent children( AFDC )changed to temporary assistance to needy families but the Welfare act gives them less than what they need. Therefore the Homeless struggle everyday to survive and even more if they have a family owing to the fact that your children would come first and living in the streets is not very healthy. The challenges the homeless face are having to sleep in a cold or hot concrete , not being able to take showers and sometimes they end up passing away due to the lack of untreated medical conditions , lack of nutrition , starvation or simply just freezing to death. The Homeless also struggle with not being able to get help or into shelters because they don’t have an ID
