Resumes and Networking

Resumes and Networking
Create a resume for a specific job application.

Step 1: Find a Want Ad or Classified.

Find and choose a Want Ad for a specific position in your chosen field (Early childhood education) that is being advertised.
Step 2: The Resume.
Create a resume for that position, using the example provided in the attach. Do not use a resume you already have(see the information in the attach), and do not use the MS Word template or a template taken off the Internet, such as a Yahoo template. Use the information you discovered about yourself in your personal assessments(see the attach). Step 3: Why the Example Works?
This resume has a straight forward, easy to read format. When you realize that the person “reading” your resume may only give it 10-15 seconds of “scan-time,” you’ll realize that it is extremely important to use a Branding statement at the top of the resume that the reader will see first. That’s what you’ll be using to impress the reader. The Branding statement should emphasize those skills and attributes asked for in the job want-ad, plus any other you think will separate you from the rest. The example resume begins with a branding statement.

Should you include an Objective on your resume? You will notice that the example resume does not have an objective statement. More and more Human Resource people are saying that an objective is not needed and usually just states the obvious: “I want a job” – and it just gets in the way of seeing your qualifications.
